First, a big “Hi!” to all my readers who are actually responsible for making my writing experience much more exciting and enriching. For the last few days, I was thinking about coming up with a write-up that’s much more personalized, and then somehow gathered the courage to go about the task. I was eager to side-step the usual headline-grabbing, discussion-provoking, and social stigma-highlighting topics and talk about something which is mine. The above title of the write-up explains many things.
But before I begin, let me elaborate few things. The “things” I will discuss below are not essentials without which incapacitated but need these on a regular basis. I hope this will turn out to be a very light-hearted post and you all will have fun while reading it.
Following are the things I can’t abandon or do without –
1. Spectacles
Spectacles or glasses are my adolescent’s most loyal companion. I was strictly instructed by my doctor to use my pair of glasses diligently since I cannot see up close and personal without them. How would I enjoy a good book? Or see the known and unknown faces?
2. Toothbrush
The toothbrush is an indispensable item on my long list of requirements. The first thing that I need in the morning hours since I love greeting the morning with a picture-perfect smile. Next, I also like to nurture squeaky clean teeth and gums. So, my toothbrush ensures that I have the requirements fulfilled every day without any pause.
3. Tea
Tea has walked alongside human beings for thousands of centuries. In fact, many studies have highlighted the various benefits of drinking tea like boosting your immune system, keeping off inflammation, and many others. Some brews can have an enduring influence on your personal wellness.
I must confess that I’m an absolute tea lover. I don’t always indulge in it for health reasons but I actually like to enjoy a cup of “kadak chai” without any precise reason. I often carry a good variety of Darjeeling or Assam tea or sometimes milky tea in my flask. On a day-to-day basis, I consume around 4-8 cups of tea and I seldom turn down a cuppa.
4. Music
I have a soft corner for music. Life without music is tedious. Whenever I place myself in my workstation, first I put on the music and then turn on my laptop. The only exception is made whenever there’s any meeting scheduled. YouTube, Spotify, etc. are some of my favourite platforms for enjoying my kind of music (semi-classical, jazz, folk music, and others).
5. Post-It Notes
I’m quite old-fashioned when it comes to planning and remembering things. I still use long-standing notepads and daily planners for all my work-related things. Online programs are not my cup of tea. You’ll locate post-it notes all over my place and I have various things written on them at times I even put down passwords and electricity bill payment reminders on them also.
6. Chocolate
I have a sweet tooth. Every day after dinner I enjoy a few pieces of chocolates. Also, for me, chocolates act as a stress buster. For me, especially dark chocolate is a much healthier option than usual desserts.
7. Internet
Seriously, I am completely dependent on the internet and can’t do without it. I am sure it’s the same with most of the world. The internet helps me to do my work and perform at my maximum capacity. It supports me to connect with my friends and family around the globe.
Also, during the pandemic, it turned into a basic necessity. I literally ran my office from my home and worked with colleagues spread across the world depending on the internet. Try to operate without the internet for a day or so and you’ll know what I am talking about. It’ll be crazy.
8. Phone Calls/ Video Calls Chat
You know the emotion involved in dialing a number and listening and viewing a close friend and family member’s face. A video call/phone call helps me to stay attached and engaged with my loved ones.
9. Whiteboard
I am absolutely in love with my whiteboard. I put down all my long-term and short-term objectives on it. I take a look at it very frequently to motivate myself. It increases my focus and always helps me to remember my actual purpose.
10. Journal
I write in it every single night after dinner. I genuinely like journaling my thoughts, experiences, and observation before I go to bed. It acts as a positive and constructive outlet for my pent-up feelings.
11. Alarm Clock
As a child, my alarm clock was my most loyal companion. It helped me to sleep more effortlessly, wake up without any glitches in the morning even if it’s too early, learn to communicate the time, and feel less jittery about going to bed on time.
Now, since I heavily depend on my alarm clock for my routine activities, it helps me be everywhere on time like leaving for the office, leaving the office to return home, joining meetings during the day, meeting with friends at clubs in the evening or various other obligations we usually have.
12. Decorative Candles
Decorative candles are a delight for enthusiastic shoppers like me. Often there’s an extensive range of candles available to select from. I love to have these in my apartment as it helps to create a serene environment. I also procure these flameless and smokeless beauties for gifting purposes, especially during the festive season.
