I don’t know whether it’s true of you or not, but my spiritual practices are inversely proportional to the success and failures of my everyday life. It goes down whenever life seems awesome and it goes up whenever life throws some challenges that look insurmountable. But mark my words, minor, everyday spiritual practices can bring well-being, build healthier lifestyle behavior, and set affirmative goals. Parallel to all these things these positive practices gradually disclose a deeper drive.
Nowadays, people throw around the term “spirituality” very casually not knowing exactly what it means. Perhaps it’s concerned with viewing the larger picture and enquiring about the bigger questions of life.
Now, you can certainly pose the question that what is day-to-day spiritual practice? Daily spiritual practices are various instruments and techniques that are employed to discover the ultimate Truth of Life. Having and confirming to a regular set of spiritual practices leads us to our greater goal in life, brings internal peace, and remains in complete synchronization with our external ambiances. So, if you’re committed, then I will suggest a few daily spiritual practices that will lead to an enhanced lifestyle. Those are as follows –
- Setting Daily Intent
As soon as you wake up every morning, set your daily intent straightaway. It can be anything you wish. It can very nonspecific like thanking God for everything you have been blessed with. It can be very specific as well like expressing your gratitude to the Almighty for a successful business trip. Sometimes, it can be an absolute surrender to the Divinity. This sort of intent setting can bring clarity to your actions for the rest of the day and can help you to be in complete harmony with the Universe around you.
- Positive Prayer or Meditation
Many prosperous individuals like Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, etc., initiate their day by meditating or praying. This can mean anything like – reciting a prayer, performing meditation, setting aside some quiet moments in the morning to have a deep conversation with your inner self, and setting positive goals for the day. These activities at the beginning of the day will raise your spirits and will build a peaceful and appreciative mindset for a successful day ahead in harmony with your mystical values.
- Spiritual Breaks All Through the Day
Its common knowledge that taking regular breaks all through the workday assists in improving well-being, performance, and productivity at the office. If these regular breaks are spiritual breaks then it serves better. They offer an opportunity to perform short and soothing meditations. Also, you can perform some basic yoga with deep breathing. Just sit outside the office, breathe in the fresh air, relax, calm your restless mind and mentally recite a prayer. These small spiritual practices help rest your racing mind.
- Don’t Ignore Your Body
Our bodies are the vessels within which our mind and life force are stationed in this life. So, your mind and life force will operate at their optimal capacity only when your body is absolutely fit and functioning at its maximum capacity. Now, this can have a different connotation for different people. Avoid going by the latest diet trends and try listening to the requirements of your own body. Your body will let you know how it needs to be cared for. Just do the basics right without the show-offs.
- Read Spiritual Books
Nowadays, you have access to spiritual books even when you’re growing up in a distant land. Reading books about ancient spiritual knowledge and practices by Tibetan monks, Indian gurus, etc., introduce unique methods of thinking and lifestyle to the readers. Try reading these books before sleep so that you get better prepared for the next busy day and this ancient wisdom also helps to get a good night’s sleep.
- Enroll in a Spiritual Community
Faith and spirituality have the capacity to build a community and bring together many like-minded individuals who tend to look after each other in times of need. This can be a huge pillar of strength, especially in an era of seclusion and cutting off from all connections.
But how it can translate into daily practice? Enrolling or attending a spiritual community can mean attending a yoga class for a few days a week, attending the daily prayers in a local temple or spiritual organization, or taking part in spiritual festivals whenever possible. This way you can associate with like-minded and compatible people who share your principles and feel more attached to and looked after.
- Journaling
There’s something very potent and romantic about writing down small incidents, realizations, observations, and much more. It’s not typical diary writing. It includes – any vision or sudden realization you had during the meditation session, things you’re thankful for in your life, a certain incident that may have upset you but writing it down can be cathartic, and more.
The process of journaling these incidents, insights, etc., gets things out of your head and calms you down. Also, you may learn about new perspectives and your own understanding of things may change completely.
- Surrender
Reflect, pray, and surrender to the Divine Being. This is when you stop controlling every aspect of your life and the various outcomes and start trusting the Almighty for your maximum good. Often when you truly surrender, the anticipated outcome is unexpectedly better than what you planned for yourself. So, do your best and trust what you’ll get in return will be delightfully impeccable.
The above-elaborated spiritual practices can not only improve your everyday lifestyle but can bring you closer to Divinity and can provide you with a better understanding of your inner being.
